Across the board is a two-year project, consisting of a series of events, exploring current cultural and artistic production in Africa, sponsored by Guaranty Trust Bank plc. It will take place in London (United Kingdom), Accra (Ghana), Douala (Cameroon), and Lagos (Nigeria). The first plastic art workshop was a collaboration between the Spanish Embassy in Accra and the Dei centre, with the support of Foundation for Contemporary Art, Ghana (FCA) took place from Monday 24 to Friday 28 January 2011; with 13 selected painters from Ghana and Togo. Its purpose was to offer artists access to exchange experiences in an intense practical workshop conducted by Spanish painter and sculptor, R?mulo Celdrán. During this, Larry Otoo emerged the best participant. He was however awarded a free flight to view the Modern and Contemporary Art Fairs- ARCO Madrid. read more
ArchiAfrika, a non-governmental organization who are into the initiation and facilitation of research and projects on the terrain of African architecture and architecture in Africa organized a 1-day film workshop at the Dei Centre on May 28, 2011. The workshop, facilitated by Manthia Diwara, a film Director and a professor at the New York University was to encourage, train and usher young film makers into the industry. Manthia asked the students to view film making as an art form. It was also an opportunity for people in the film industry in Ghana to interact with the renowned filmmaker. read more
The second annual Joe Nkrumah lecture took place on Tuesday May 31, 2011, at the Dei Centre. The Lecture was delivered by Senam Okudzeto, a transnational artist, writer and scholar.Prof Joe Nkrumah, a conservator, cultural anthropologist and chemist, worked and lectured in various institutions of heritage and culture. EXHIBITION REVIEW - “PRESENCE IN ABSENCE” The work of three Ghanaian women artists- Marigold Akufo-Addo, Adwoa Boakyewaa Amoah and Fatric Bewong constitute the exhibition, “Presence in Absence”.
