For art lovers, candid exchanges with private collectors and artists in Ghana are a rapidly expanding interest. In consequence, education programmes, such as “Meet the Artist” organized by Foundation For Contemporary Art, FCA, has become a useful experience for young artists who see these events as an important source of knowledge and inspiration.
The Dei Centre, in partnership with Foundation For Contemporary Art, FCA, recently presented “Meet the Collector” which is designed to heighten the visibility of these engagement between art patrons, artists and other interested participants. Mr. Seth Dei, better known as an avid art collector with the largest private art collection in the country, played host to this series.
In his words: art is life and the most important skill required to collect art is one’s instinct. He also added that he hopes to donate his collection to the country when the country expresses the desire and the capacity to care for the works. Mr. Dei also said that he is currently focused on collecting works on upcoming Ghanaian artists and would also what he believes are some key gaps among “well-established” artists as well.
Lively discussions that were both daring and innovative – these were the qualities, that characterised this enjoyable evening with the collector.
